IN Arkansas, women with equitable experience make an average of 85% of what men do for the same position.
Where can you find out what the going rate is for your job? How do you counter an initial salary offer? What are the best ways to ask for a raise?
AAUW’s Work Smart online salary negotiation workshop (https://salary.aauw.org/) teaches participants to effectively negotiate their salary and benefits. The workshop is geared toward women as a way for AAUW to promote equitable economic security, but everyone is welcome to participate.
The AAUW Conway Branch is promoting this free online tool. Branch president, Amanda Potter Cole, 37, said: “We’re excited about how this tool can help all Conway and Faulkner County residents become more skilled in negotiating fair salaries.
“Whether it’s due to a lack of time or interest, most employers don’t research the value of every role in order to offer fair salaries to every hire, research appropriate salary adjustments for each position as the responsibilities evolve, and actively compare salaries for the men and women in the company.
“We would love to see everyone in the community complete this workshop. AAUW’s online workshop gives employees and job seekers the tools to independently research fair salaries and learn how to discuss them with employers. These conversations will allow employers to understand the need to be proactive and adequately budget for quality team members.
“When everyone knows what the fair salary for a position is, and that’s what’s being paid, then the pay gap will be eliminated.”
For anyone who wants to learn more about the Work Smart online salary negotiation workshop, AAUW Conway is hosting a live stream Facebook event at 10:30 on Saturday, January 11. Branch members will share more information about the workshop and answer questions. Details are available at: https://www.facebook.com/events/563101851203776/
The branch is also available to provide presentations to interested networking groups, community groups, and school organizations throughout the year. Interested groups can learn more at: https://conway-ar.aauw.net/worksmart/
